"OUR GYMNAESTRADA WAS A GREAT SUCCESS!" To all who made the June Gymnaestrada such a success! It was a great display of all the hard work the gymnasts and coaches have done for the year! How proud they must be of how much they have accomplished! Thanks to all the volunteers who without their help this event could not happen. "IN THEIR OWN WORDS..." 2005 Canadian Champions: On the 28th and 29th of May, the Bodywaves and the two Display Groups went to UBC for the Canadian Championships (or a really, really big Gymnaestrada)! It was one of the best experiences I have ever had, and I bet a lot of other people thought that too! It was a whole lot of fun! On the 28th which was a Saturday we had three workshops! The first one was a "Cheerleading Workshop", where we were taught how to do the dancing side of it. Which trust me is not as easy as it seems! Anyway we were taught by a B. C. Lions' Cheerleader! (Pretty Cool huh?) And the second workshop we had was a "Drama" workshop, where we had to find different ways to move our bodies! And we got to try on all sorts of different masks and try to fit personalities into everyone that we tried on! And trust me it's harder than you think may be! Anyway the third workshop that we did was the "Tumble Trac" and that was just mainly fun, we had fun and that's the main thing that counts! The next day we had all the performances and man was it ever H-O-T on that stage! Anyway it was a lot of fun, and one of the main things that happened that weekend is to have fun, and to also learn more about others and also yourself! Written by: Chelsey (age 10 yrs. old) from the Bodywaves Alberta's Centennial Gymnaestrada: On the weekend of April 16, 2005, our Display Group traveled all the way to the "far off" land of Calgary. Contrary to Linda's belief, we stayed up on the first night until midnight swimming in the hotel pool. Unfortunately the next day, which was performance day, we had to wake up at 7:00 a.m. The performances went well and we watched tons of "awesome - possum" routines. After the Gymnaestrada, we went back to the hotel and did homework and watched "Shark Tales". On our last day, we went to the Calgary Zoo and checked out all the cool animals. Before we flew home, we had a successful shopping trip at the Mall. All in all, it was a great experience! Written by Britney, Erica and Meghan (14 - 15 yrs. old) from the Display Group FUN THINGS YOU CAN DO WITH YOUR FAMILY THIS SUMMER: -Go for a swim -Fly a kite -Go for an ice cream -Go fishing -Go to a baseball game -Ride bikes -Go to the Zoo -Go to the Park -Run through the sprinkler -Go on a picnic -Shoot some hoops -Wash the car -Set up a lemonade stand in your neighborhood -Draw on the sidewalk with chalk -Make Popsicles -Offer to wash an elderly neighbor's car BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY- JUST HAVE FUN DOING IT TOGETHER AS A FAMILY!
